Tips for teaching kids about fire safety

Fire Safety

A fire starts in a multifamily property every six minutes in the United States, according to a 2005 National Fire Protection Association fire survey. A fire may start from an unattended pot in the kitchen, an overloaded electrical circuit or an errant cigarette. You could find your living room ablaze because a child was playing with matches, or you could just have bad luck like a lightening strike. You can take action to make sure you come out of an unexpected disaster alive and to prevent fires. Help your family stay safe by reviewing the fire safety resources available at these sites:

  • Fire safety tips for renters. For suggestions on talking to your children about fire safety.
  • For resources from the Houston Fire Department on a variety of safety topics.
  • If you are a manager of a property, click here to request a fire safety demonstration at your community.
  • If you are a manager of a property, click here for an article from the December 2008 edition of Abode Magazine on safety preparations for your property and your residents for the holidays.
